The EWA-Joseph B. Vestal Endowed Scholarship awards financial aid to full-time students enrolled in Electrical Engineering Technology or Information Systems Management studies at Old Dominion University (ODU) who intend to pursue a professional career in wireless applications or telecommunications.
The fund honors the life of and recognizes the entrepreneurial contributions to the wireless industry of Joseph B. Vestal, a Distinguished Alumni of ODU (class of 1960). Joe Vestal was a former member of the EWA Board of Directors and a distinguished executive and leader in the wireless industry. Prior to founding FleetTalk Management Services, Mr. Vestal had a long career in management with Motorola in their land mobile radio products division and was instrumental in guiding EWA and American Mobile Telecommunications Association (AMTA) strategic initiatives as an elected officer and member of the Board of Directors of these industry trade associations.
“Joe Vestal has been a mentor, inspiration and a critical advisor to many people aspiring to leadership in the wireless communications industry,” commented EWA Chief Strategy Officer Mark Crosby. “It’s only appropriate that this endowment opportunity be used to assist dedicated scholars who seek to excel in an industry that has benefited so much from Joe’s contributions.”
